There stands to be more opportunities for higher education in Margibi County as preparations are ongoing and nearing climax for the formal opening of the Harbel College for full operations.
There are indications that, activities leading to full commencement of academic activities at the College would come to an end and that there would soon be a more easy access to tertiary education in Margibi.
At present, the Interim Administration of the college headed by Margibi County Education Officer William F. Gizzi has released to the public questionnaires on what courses should the College first begin offering upon full commencement of academic activities.
The William Gizzi Interim Administration is reported to have also begun the exercise of recruiting administrators and faculty for the College.
Already, Margibi County District-two Representative and drafter of the bill that brought to reality the establishment of the college Ballah G. Zayzay has disclosed an allotment of over forty thousand (US$40,000) in the national budget through the Ministry of Education for the Institution.
Also, the Management of Firestone-Liberia has provided one of its Educational facilities for the college to temporarily operate while its own facilities were being constructed near the Harbel Multilateral High School.
Representative Zayzay says the National Commission on Higher Education and Ministry of Education have approved the commencement of the construction plan since the money was available and the college has met all required procedures to commence operations, a development that has grasp the interest of many Margibians.
The Harbel College is a full degree granting institution established by an act of Legislation through a bill introduced and sponsored by Margibi County District-two Representative Ballah G. Zayzay in the 53rd National Legislature passed by the both houses, signed by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and printed into hind bills.
With the Harbel College, Representative Ballah Zayzay says, the president’s aim of decreasing a generation of tappers in Firestone would now be met.
Already, Margibi County hosts the Trinity Bible College and School of Business, Cuttington Junior College, University of Liberia College of General Studies, The Booker Washington Institute (BWI) and soon to be Technical College among others.
