President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, yesterday acknowledged the sacrificial services of a pedantic nurse at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center where she had gone to share the spirit of Christmas with children there on sick beds.
An Executive Mansion statement said hundreds of patients, mainly children, benefited from the President’s gesture.
The beneficiaries, mainly children 10 and under, received varieties of toys, including games, learning materials and pianos from the Liberian leader as she encouraged them to get well soon.
“Please try and get well,” President Sirleaf told the patients, adding, “I pray that God Almighty will use these health workers to heal you in order to return to school once again.”
Th4e President used the occasion to also thank a pediatric nurse at the JFK, Madam Muriel Gordon, for her humanitarian services to Liberia and its people. “Liberians, let us thank this woman for the ‘free of charge’ service she has and continues to render the Liberian people, some of which include medical services and the importation of toys, at her own expense, from the United States for the children of Liberia.”
Amazed by the President’s recognition, Madam Gordon, who hails from New York, in the United States, expressed joy that her work to save lives would be noticed and recognized in such manner, and she hoped she would do more while practicing at the nation’s number one referral hospital.
The President also donated dozens of bags of rice to the health workers at the Medical Center, in appreciation of their service to the country in their respective areas of specialty.
